Ian Hickman

A bit better than Prentiss' book because it does a better job of discussing the circuit theory of how oscilloscopes work. This is the fourth edition and perhaps the 5th edition goes into more detail on more recent instruments but since I am interested in old analog CRT scopes at the moment this was a useful read. The sections on CRT design and operation were especially helpful. Still looking for the ultimate guide to the theory of operation and design of oscilloscopes.
