Even though his father started as a band director Rick was his own man and knew just what he wanted and how he saw his music to go. The book told about the friendship between him and Elvis and of Glen Campbell being one of his back up singers. Although a lot of his life was public knowledge this book sheds light on little known facts about Rick Nelson. Worth reading if you grew up watching Ozzie and Harriet.

It is written in a very didactic style, going into great detail about sessions and practices and the television show, but very little about the personal. I was immediately turned off by the first paragraph which said that God was responsible for this book. This may be important to the author but does not further the work. I was also confused because she constantly referenced Connie Harper Nelson but didn't identify her as Rick's aunt until about 70 pages into the book. I couldn't understand how she figured in this work and how she became such an authority. I was hoping for so much more when I requested this book.… (meer)

Lots of research was done and it made for good reading with all the quotes from people in the life of Rick. I can't imagine the work that went into finding all those quotes and placing them into a storyline. His musical career was interesting.

If you are looking for a resource book on Rock A Billy music then this book is definitely for you. I was looking for more of a personal biography, the story of the artist’s life and was therefore very disappointed with this book.
