Over de Auteur

Born in Wakefield, Massachusetts, Horovitz completed an unpublished novel at the tender age of 13. Since then he has written some four dozen plays that have been translated into many languages. The Indian Wants the Bronx (1968) won an Obie and the Vernon Rice Award and established him as an toon meer absurdist in the Beckett--Ionesco tradition. His more recent plays have focused less on urban violence and more on Jewish family life and small-town problems. His plays have been frequently produced both internationally and in America's regional and college theaters. He is the first American to have been honored as playwright-in-residence at the Royal Shakespeare Company in England. (Bowker Author Biography) toon minder

A poignant and, at times, acerbically amusing film based in Paris. Made in 2014, there are just three main characters, played by Kevin Kline, Maggie Smith and Kristen Scott Thomas. Impeccable acting, believable screen chemistry, and an intriguing storyline involving a peculiarly French method of buying a house inexpensively...

We thought this a beautifully made film, and were engrossed almost from the start. Perhaps the plot is a tad predictable, but the premise is unusual, and the scenery stunning. All filmed on location in Paris, apparently.

I listened to this play courtesy of the L.A. Theatre Works broadcast on their website. Jason Robards & Judith Ivey were excellent and the play probably deserves a higher rating (added later - I have raised my 3.5* rating to 4* so this comment may not still apply). Ivey in particular did the Gloucester accent well (and I come from this area of the world).

My problem with it was personal - it hit a lot of buttons for me. Of course, now that I write that down I am thinking that is what a good play should do! While I liked the ending, it was on the sentimental side. Those who like strict realism in their theater might quibble that it isn't likely...… (meer)
