Of special interest to me was the chapter on the Queens Bush, an early settlement of Black settlers who had fled slavery in the USA during the 1840's. I am sure my father's first farm was on land cleared by those settlers from which they had been forced by land companies that were selling the land to white settlers.
A disturbing book in that it makes the reader search their attitude to race.… (meer)
