The Couple in the Cabin by Daniel Hurst is another amazing psychological thriller exploring the depths of human emotions. The story starts with a simple husband-and-wife relationship and takes a steep turn with some intense turns. Grace's character was wonderful, with all the secrets that are buried deep in her heart. Every scene was on another level. The book is fast-paced and a definite page-turner.

The climax was a little bit expected, but the character's true identity was a cherry on top. It hits you like a wave, making reading a wonderful experience. Definitely, the book deserves 4 stars. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with an opportunity to read and review the book.… (meer)

The prologue to this story finds a nurse burning her blood stained uniform and ID card. Skip ahead to the present time and find that Darcy is an anxious person who suffers from sleep deprivation. Her fellow nurse, Pippa, takes her under her wing, offering support, encouragement, and strong coffee as they have been hired to assist a married couple, Adrian and Scarlett. Scarlett has brain damage from a fall suffered in her kitchen which has resulted in some type of memory loss/dementia. Darcy is very uncomfortable in the situation and suspects Adrian may be harming his wife. When a strange man follows her and then someone seems to have broken into her house, her life begins spinning out of control.

Hurst has written a number of psychological thrillers, including the popular The Doctor’s Wife series. I like to call them “popcorn thrillers.” This is a clever plot, a bit over the top, and, for me, required suspension of belief. There are twists, turns, deceits, murder. It was a quick, easy, dare I say, fun read.

The Doctor's Wife by Daniel Hurst is an engaging thriller that drives the readers' excitement till the end. The plot was closely knitted around a few characters and a small village, just as I like it. Although the story became a little bit predictable for me, But if you are new to this genre, then it will definitely intrigue you. The most interesting was the climax, which was a cliffhanger for the next book.

I listened to the book as an audiobook, and the narrator's voice was like butter. Fern's and Alice's roles were the most interesting. I was not expecting Fern's moves at all. Her character was bold and smart. Doctor Drew was just naive, thinking whatever he was doing was right. A well-paced book with a riveting climax to enjoy on a perfect evening. This is the fourth in the continuing “soap opera” series introduced by The Doctor’s Wife; I have read all four.

There is a lot of history between Fern and Alice who lived in a small English village. Alice had an affair with Fern’s husband, the doctor. Fern arranged for Alice’s husband, Rory, to kill the doctor and set Alice up to be blamed and imprisoned for it. Fern killed Rory, escaped to build a new life, met a new man, Greg. When she found out that Greg was the doctor’s best friend out to catch Fern, she killed him as well. BUT, Alice was carrying the doctor’s child and Fern was impregnated by Greg. Skip ahead almost two decades and Alice’s daughter, Evelyn, wants revenge. Fern is now living happily in France with a new husband and her daughter, Cecilia. When paths cross, revenge and retribution are on the menu. Got it? Whew!

As with the prior three stories, this was an engrossing, fast read that I couldn’t put down. I liked the continued author’s style of alternating chapter POVs from the various main characters, learning their inner thoughts. You may dislike some (or all!) of the characters and think some things a bit over the top, but you will enjoy this psychological thriller. It is an entertaining, escapist read.

While this could work as a stand alone, for those interested, it might be better to go back and read the prior three novels for the history. They are quick, “popcorn thrillers”. If you read this (perhaps) final in the series, what did you think of the ending?
