A fine example of an Harlequin Presents, except without a totally chauvinist hero. The dude, Arturo, is maybe a little autocratic, but is otherwise a nice guy. The lady, Carol, is also nice, if maybe a little too self-sacrificing in the beginning. Overall I enjoyed reading it (more than I've enjoyed reading some other HP's recently) except that one of the background characters uses a racial slur for no apparent reason, beyond that she wants to be shocking (which is just an inference, since it's addressed in no way by the text). I'm being slightly more lenient because this was published a long time ago and I do think I understand the reasoning behind it, but I would have liked at least one person to be like "hey, not cool".… (meer)

Enjoyed this story of a woman who finally comes out of her shell after years of dealing with the aftermath of a near rape as a young teenager. She meets a man who falls in love with her and will just not give up on them being together. This book took place over several months so the story of her coming to love him and trust him was believable. In this one the hero was steadfast throughout and the heroine was the one who had problems and misgivings and who nearly broke them up. As an aside, the hero was Dutch which just seemed odd since it didn't play into the story at all so there wasn't really any point to it. The book is well written and the plot makes sense.

Thanks a bunch Willa for sending it to me.

Interesting story of a young widow falling for her boss. It held my interest. The boss was a little hard to figure out where exactly he was coming from. He wasn't mean but he wasn't nice. He wanted her but you weren't real sure exactly when and why etc. Well written and interesting scenes in the middle when they went to Africa on work and he tried to create a wonderful experience for her. Not a great deal of angst but it was worth reading.

The Scorpio Man
3.5 Stars

A typical Harlequin romance from the 1980s with a heroine who is constantly jumping to conclusions, and a hero who is incapable of expressing his feelings and goes about shouting and blustering instead.

That said, Leon and Cherry have great chemistry and their love/hate relationship combined with the office romance trope make for some entertaining reading. It is just a pity that their eventual consummation scene fades to black ...
