Chang Ji

This ivory "grain of rice" is hand-inscribed with two famous Chinese poems: Night Stop at the Maple Bridge by Chang Ji and Ode to Jin Lin [Nanjing] by Du Mu. The engraver's signature aned chop are found in the far right column. It reads: "Engraved by Wang Ching Yuan." The first poem (columns 1-3 from the right) is a word picture describing a real place that is a favorite tourist site-- the Maple Bridge, just outside the Cold Hill Temple. The second poem (columns 4-6 from the right) is also a famous word-picture. Jin Lin is a city in China. The author is a well known sentimental poet.… (meer)
