David Wyn Jones has had an ingenious idea and realized it brilliantly. Circling around (but not limited to) three decisive years at the turn of the centuries, 1700, 1800 and 1900, he has managed to bring together a wealth of social, economic and musical context to show why Vienna has been one of toon meer most remarkable centres in the history of classical music.
