Great introduction to what HTML5 is, what it is not and it was ever created.

A brilliant look at how the web got to where it is today, and the principles and philosophy necessary to design for it (that haven't really changed, at their core, since the beginning).

It was alright, though the humou?r did nothing for me. For a book of a technical nature, there was a metric ton of opinion, self-confusion and loathing ( patterns, for widgets, etc.), and describing of things you shouldn't do (most of the explanation, autofocus, for people, etc.).

Definitely outdated. Maybe at the time it came out it was not too bad.

Jeremy Keith sums up the coolest and most useful parts of the html5 specification in an easy to follow book that can be read cover to cover on a short flight.

You can find more information about his books, as well as various articles and talks at his website adactio.com.

This is a very handy pocketbook guide to HTML5 - focusing on the what and how which web designers and website developers need to know. The author has a light touch, and is very amusing.

Found the first chapters a very clear explanation of Javascript - rest of the book a bit beyond what I want to do now, but really enjoyed the way it was written and explained.

A pretty good introduction to the Document Object Model (DOM) and how to apply it to creating web sites. The basics are covered (although not in much depth), and a few samples are shown in detail. Perfect for a beginner, but may bore the intermediate coder.

Great introduction to scripting for novice developers. Each chapter builds on the previous chapter, providing clear instructions for building an increasingly complex Web application. Keith provides clear and thorough explanations of what is happening every step of the way.

A great primer on writing compliant javascript or for adapting DOM scripting for languages other than javascript.½

An excellent standards-based javascript programming tutorial aimed at web designers who aren't necessarily programmers. There's plenty of guidance here for the beginning programmer, but Keith doesn't spend lots of time duplicating reference material available elsewhere or explaining basic programming concepts; so it's also good for someone with more experience who wants to get right to some useful examples.
