I spent about half the book wavering between a 2 and 3 star rating. Then it just all went downhill. It started out not half bad but it just got progressively worse. Ava was a little too on her high horse for my liking, her inability to see shades of grey annoyed the crap out of me. The plot just ended up being confusing - it wasn't explained why their boss would manipulate them both and put them both in danger.

Based on the blurb and cover, I expected a darker romantic suspense. That isn't what I got. Despite being lighter than I expected, it started out fairly well. Unfortunately it quickly went downhill.

Most of my issues stemmed from the fact that Natalie is completely too stupid to live. She had absolutely no common sense. Right from the beginning I was scratching my head at her antics. The way she refused to go to the police and blindly trusted a stranger she met in a bar was just the beginning of a whole book full of stupid moves on her part.

I liked Eric a bit better, but it annoyed me how he claimed to be such a lady chaser and yet we saw no evidence of it. He was portrayed as a strong, chivalrous man right from the beginning. If the author hadn't continually beat me over the head with his thoughts of how out of character it was for him to be so sweet I would never have known he was an asshole.

Marly Fine is a hairdresser trying to make ends meet. Jack Hammersmith is the governor of Florida and born with a silver spoon. He has decided that she is the one for him, she only needs persuasion. She is determined to teach him that his whims are not always convenient, particularly for someone who wants their independence.

I did love Marly, she was a great character and determined to make sure that the relationship had at least some equality going on during it. I felt though, that Jack needed to work harder. Though he was a good character and did learn from the whole story.… (meer)

I found the characters quite believable and fun and the story interesting. I giggled my way through the mud bath revenge! Peggy Underwood and Troy Barrington were well matched both in temprament and type. The two characters came across well and lept off the page and dragged me into and along with the story.

A pretty good read.
