Revelation by Leslie Hawthorne Klinger Leslie Hawthorne Klinger and her husband, Tim, returned in May from Cuatro Cruces, Costa Rica, where they served for three years with MCC. Klinger has since written a 52-page book of stories, "Walk These Stones," that tells of the friends, celebrations and struggles they discovered there. Julia explains to me that God shares his Word with her in spite of her illiteracy -- that he reveals powerful things when she fasts and gets down on her knees. She questions why her literate neighbors read so little: "How can they neglect God's Word when they have its secrets open to them?" I do not doubt that God reveals powerful things to her, for her friendship with God radiates from her smile, her laughter and small things like her sincere thanks for a pineapple. Her life is a constant conversation with her Creator. Julia assures me that God gets around her not knowing how to read, but imagines there would be nothing better than discovering hidden truths in the Bible. She smiles. "I tell God that I may not be a spring chicken anymore, but as long as I'm living there's hope that someday I'll sit down and read his Word!"
