Absurd but hugely enjoyable action cliché-fest that sees Martin Kove play Vietnam vet and alcoholic ex-cop John Steele, who turns Rambo in order to avenge his army pal who was killed by Vietnamese gangsters, led by his 'Nam nemesis General Bon Soong Kwan. Cue a rerun of the Vietnam war on the streets of Los Angeles. The action is ludicrous, but entertaining; individual sequences bizarre (the poison dart and cauterising frying pan being a prime example); the plot is triple-cheese deluxe; the acting sublimely appalling and the music utterly bombastic. Add to this a "rat bomb"; a poisonous pet snake called Three Step; a gun that shoots knives; a midget cowboy barfly; a scene that sees a firefight take place in the middle of a glossy '80s pop video shoot and Martin Kove rocking the campest bare-chested action movie fashions you'll ever see. This all makes "Steele Justice" an accidental absurdist action masterpiece - genius!
