Disclaimer: this is a highly belated review so my memory of book details is exceptionally foggy. However--at the time I read this (circa 2013), I remember liking the story in general, while at the same time, wanting to do a little Google research to confirm that the inventor's brain-child woulda/coulda been around at the time. I think it checked out. It was a likeable read.

Just the Truth by Gen LaGreca has Laura Taninger investigating a story that will cause trouble for her individually, for her family members, and for Taninger Enterprises. Laura was taught by her grandfather that fighting for the truth is worth it. The motto for Taninger Enterprises is “Find the Truth wherever it hides.” I thought Just the Truth was well-written with developed characters. Laura Taninger is an intelligent woman with a nose for news and a determination to uncover the truth. Laura has discovered a discrepancy in the Bureau of Elections budget regarding the new SafeVote system. Ken Martin, the current United States President, is behind the new voter system and he does not appreciate Laura’s digging for information. Laura searches for the truth which is what all journalist should do. The role of a journalist is to report the truth in an unbiased fashion. I thought the author captured the scene in Washington, D.C. with the politicians and the journalists. The story moves along at a good pace and it kept my interest. Just the Truth has lying, cheating, intimidation, sabotage, and murder. I loved the twist at the end and how the story played out. I stayed up very late to finish Just the Truth. I thought Just the Truth was a timely novel as it reflects the what is currently happening in politics. You will find yourself cheering for Laura as she risks her career, her reputations, and her life in her quest to uncover the truth and report it. Just the Truth is an intriguing novel with a powerful politician, a caring cohort, an unfeeling family, and a justified journalist.… (meer)

I received this through a giveaway. This is the story of Arial, a twenty-one year old man from the planet of Asteron. He spends his days under the cruel reign of the dictator Feran and dreams of escape and yearns to become a pilot. The story starts with Arial under arrest and awaiting execution. He manages to escape to Earth where he meets Kristen a young woman who is an expert pilot. This is where the rest of the story plays out with a few twists and a lot of action and romance to keep the story moving forward.

The politics throughout are a bit heavy-handed and rather black or white. And the constant questioning and repeating of past events by Arial took me out of the story. I think the pace could have benefited by cutting the majority of his internal monologues and keeping to the present.

There were some lovely scenes throughout. I especially liked the joy conveyed when Arial was flying and his first interactions with Reevah.

Overall, I enjoyed the story and was glad to have the opportunity to read it. A good read for Sci-fi fans.

This could be a dramatic medical thriller, however the author chose to write a book to express a very slanted political view against any form of government health care. Throughout the book, when the story line began to move and draw the reader into the lives and interactions of the characters...out came the soap box.

The characters could have told a riveting tale, but in the interest of bashing government health care, they become fairy tale creations of good versus evil. You'll meet the blind princess in her white satin robe, the brilliant neurosurgeon who is nearly crucified by the system, an evil, corupt, vain politician who controls the lives of everyone he is surrounded by and of course a weak 'yes man' who ultimately chooses suicide when faced with a hard decision between good or bad.

Add to this, a battle over medical experiments on animals, a government contract with kick backs, a Governor whose concept of serving the people begins and ends with 'me', corrupt practices in an election year, greed.... I think you get the idea.
