I'm one of those annoying and cliched old women who loved Jacqueline Kennedy, although I'm embarrassed to admit it. And so I loved this book, which is interesting without being (very) vulgar. I'm glad I read it. Every 50 pages or so, I'd have to add something to the old Amazon wish list, but sadly, most of the books she edited are out of print and therefore out of my price range.

Kindle edition is 7.59; borrowed from library. Found the book inspirational. It was tedious reading since it was a recitation of all her projects without much story line. However, I found it great that she found a career for herself and was able to take her talents and use them productively.

Although the front flap of the book jacket of "Jackie as Editor" claims that this is “the first book to focus exclusively on this remarkable women’s editorial career,” the book appeared on the market approximately one month after "Reading Jackie" by William Kuhn, covering the same topic, became available.
As the title suggests, "Jackie as Editor" deals almost exclusively about her life as an editor. Other events during the last 19 years of Jackie’s life including her family life are seldom mentioned until her final illness which is discussed in some detail.

"Jackie as Editor" tells the stories of Jackie’s involvement with the authors, illustrators, and editors of the books she participated in having published. It also describes how Jackie went about coming up with ideas for books which should be published. Author Greg Lawrence interviewed a large number of people associated with Jackie during her time as editor in preparing to write this book. The book is written in an informal style, with numerous quotations. Many of the authors Jackie worked with talk about their interactions with her concerning their books. Mr. Lawrence himself assisted dancer Gelsey Kirkland, his wife at the time, in writing three books which Jackie edited. Although the sources of quotations are suggested, Mr. Lawrence does not provide any footnotes; in the sources section near the end of the book, he lists the people interviewed (without dates of interviews), and books and periodicals he used for each chapter, but gives no citations.
