Loved it! This is the first time I've read a Hellcat-centric graphic novel and I'm so glad I finally am. It's definitely a lighter, funnier story (think Squirrel Girl) that blends superhero stuff alongside contemporary New York life as a young woman. Truly though, my favorite thing about this was probably all the amazing female characters! Patsy has some of the best friends a girl could ask for, and I loved seeing them all interact. Also, I'm veryyy curious to see how her plans to find jobs for superheros goes; I really thought that was a unique way for this to be written and it has a lot of potential.

"Don't shrink yourself for other people, okay?" (Mr. Trent, to Liv, 57)

The message is good, but the messenger - an apparently caring teacher - turns out to be bad. Liv Holme is new to Harbour City High School, and after a bad experience with people she thought were friends at her old school - they reacted poorly when she told them she was bi - she isn't very trusting. Eventually, she comes out of her shell a little bit, and when Mr. Trent hits on her, she's able to tell a friend - who had the same experience and transferred schools because of it. Liv's mom - whose husband, Liv's dad, is constantly away "for work" but is likely cheating on her - marches into school to deal with the problem.

Trigger Warnings: Child Grooming

Liv Holme is starting over in a new town with her mom. And a new town means a new high school. If that’s not hard enough, Liv is a fifteen-year-old bisexual goth. As Liv tries to find her community, the only person who seems to make time for her is one of her teachers, Mr. Trent, but she’s not sure how she feels about the way he acts towards her sometimes. Thankfully, she finds solace in the mall, where she’s away from all her troubles. Now she must set off on a journey of self-acceptance and the ups and downs of life and high school.

I loved the art in this - that is one of the main reasons I wanted to read this.

Secondly, the storyline isn’t what I thought it would be and I really enjoyed it.

I both feel like it could have been longer (more in depth), but then at the same time, the story fit in the page length that it was. There was just a lot going on - especially with stuff like her Dad and sometimes conversations with Liv’s mom, I felt like it could have been more elaborated on, but I still understood what was going on.

I’ve already recommended this to two friends, so this will be on my graphic novel list for sure.

Yeah, alright, sure Kate, tear out my heart and shred it. S'ok, I wasn't using it or anything...

Which is to say, this is brilliant. It's soft, and sweet, and nostalgic, and fun, and awkward, and hard, and complicated, and important, and devastating, and hopeful, and CUUUTTTTTEEEEEEE, and many more adjectives that I'm done thinking of.

Do yourself a favour and read this! Your library probably has a copy! If they don't, tell them they're wrong and request they get one.

Kim has died, but her granddaughter Meg is soon to discover that Kim's stories about Edward are all true...

This is a perfect graphic novel for everyone that loves the movie Edward Scissorhands. I found the art a bit messy at first, but then I got used to it and even started to like it. I had some problems with my bluefire reader on my ipad so the first time I read this one was everything in black and white, which made it a bit difficult to read. So I read the graphic novel agin this time on a computer, well mostly the parts that didn't make much sense in black and white. So much more easier to read in color.

A lovely story and I'm looking forward to read more Edward Scissorhands graphic novels, although I miss Kim...I really need to see the movie again...

I received this copy from the publisher through Netgalley in return for an honest review!

Cute.

It's been ages since I last watched Fraggle Rock (since it was when I was a kid, that was many, many years ago). I could actually remember some of the voices as I was reading this. And the theme song. It's a quick, easy read. The artwork is excellent and the plot pretty typical for an episode of the show.

And now I want a Doozer. They're too cute.

This volume of Patsy Walker is just straight-forward fun. The comic features a blend of traditional comic art and anime chibi elements which gives the characters the opportunity to demonstrate sarcasm, exasperation and other emotions without actually having to over-explain with dialogue. Amazon’s Panel View for the Kindle is especially handy for a volume like this where visual punchlines or reactions can't be spoiled by scanning ahead. The story is light and simple but makes for a great palette cleanser in between darker, harder reads.

This series commits to the "wheels" in the title by continuing the road trip down the East Coast in the first volume with a cross-country jaunt along I-10 through the American South. As with the first volume, the detours in the middle in Mobile, New Orleans, and Phoenix are more interesting than the final meet-up with a new witch in California.

While the witchy trio do some nice bickering and bonding along the way, the ride seemed a little bumpier with underdeveloped elements and herky-jerky progress. This feels like the middle leg of a longer journey, and I'm hoping I will one day get to see them back on the road to their home in Massachusetts and some closure to all the unresolved baggage in their trunk.

When a burglar steals a bunch of their magical supplies, three witches set off on a road trip down the East Coast to recover their fenced goods. The story is episodic, with all the good bits coming in the middle as they get involved with some colorful characters on the way. The resolution of the burglar and the Big Bad behind him is actually the least interesting part of the book, though it doesn't ruin it.

I have the sequel on hand and look forward to spending more time with the characters.

I thought this was awful. Let's chalk it up to I'm not the intended audience. The issues in the book and the dialogue were juvenile. And, the employment service for super heroes is hardly a novel concept. In fact, the only thing I liked was the author's choice to feature openly gay characters, which is refreshing for this genre.

Easy breezy super fun comic that taps into two things I love--witches and road trips. Definitely overdue for a rewatch of The Craft.

This was super cute even if I didn't understand the point behind the whole thing. Makes me consider getting a goldfish.

Great diversity. Fun artwork.
The confusion within the story worked well within the plot.
Love Kevin and his easy acceptance of his outfit.

Way too cute for my tastes. Some intriguing characters and promising plotlines, but the whole thing felt like it was trying to be sitcom level funny and felt flat.

I liked this better than Volume 1, though it is still a bit cutesy for my tastes. But there was a lot more plot going on which drew me into the story. I'm glad it was available on KU because I'm not sure I would have picked it up otherwise. I'm more open to continuing on with the series now than I had been.

I got one more read in for 2017 with 5 minutes to spare! This was a good one, and super fun. Three witches go on a roadtrip to reclaim items that were stolen from their home, and to find the culprit. It's both lighthearted, and at times oddly serious. Kick-ass women main characters, and it doesn't hurt that the ass they kick sometimes is misogyny.

Also, hell yeah, the Beast was way hotter before he got turned into the Prince. I'm 100% with Claire on this one.½

A lot of unfinished stories to tell. I hope Leth and Williams can keep them all going. There's some great Ian character development in this one.

THIS was fun. Lighthearted, adventurous, female-oriented, quirky fun. I have not read the previous Patsy Walker comics, but this volume was set up to help me get the general idea of her backstory without needing too many details. I believe this is what I was looking for when I read and was disappointed in Lumberjanes. Patsy is a protagonist to root for, and she's got a cadre of friends and associates who round out her circle. I'm really looking forward to seeing where this series goes next!
