His novella Rogue's Babylon was adapted into the movie Cliffhanger, starring Sylvester Stallone. His literary fiction has appeared in Granta and is widely anthologized. His feats include the first one-day ascent of El Capitan and a coast-to-coast traverse of Borneo. More than 750,000 copies of his outdoor guides are in print. He resides in Venezuela and in Venice, California.
