To see whether I like an author, I will get a free book through a place like Prolific Works, which is where I got a copy of this book. It was full of spelling errors, grammatical errors, and in places utterly unreadable. The story itself would have been good if the book had been readable. Since Chris Lowry is a prolific author, I hope this is not indicative of his work.
Slightly below average zombie fare. The writing didn't engage me in the first book of the series, but did in the second book, so I like it better. But both end up with a rating of 3/5 stars.

War with the Licks has dragged on for years. Convicts and gang members are swept off the streets , loaded on transports, shipped to Mars where they are dumped on the ground next to a pile of weapons. They are within sight and range of the enemy. Anyone who survived first contact is considered a veteran.Many are poor civilians whose only crime is being caught.
This short story contained 3 episodes connected only by location or a character. There were firefights and desert patrols, deaths and injuries. Since there is no way to leave, they fight or give up.
