Korte biografie
Captured in North Africa in 1942, he was offered repatriation, but refused, and was imprisoned in Stalag Luft III. "He conducted memorial services for the 50 men who were captured and executed after the Great Escape, and, when all the American prisoners were moved to a separate compound they asked if Macdonald might be allowed to go with them as their chaplain. This was permitted, and he remained with the American forces both there, and in Stalag VIIa after their 62-mile 'death march' in temperatures down to -20C. He was awarded the American Bronze Star." After the war he preached in Glasgow and then at St George’s West Church in Edinburgh, where he was very popular as a powerful voice for social reform. Married to Betty Macdonald.
