Dannie Martin

This is a hard book to rate. I picked this up ages ago from Hastings when they used to have books on clearance for $0.99. I bought alot of books this way, and discovered works that I normally wouldn't have considered. I miss that.

But I digress.

This book was a poignant look into prostitution, animal fighting, drug dealing, prison, and lots more stuff I've seen first-hand, but never from the INSIDE. This book was hard to read, but gave a realistic portrayal of humans in an often stereotyped world.

Feelings, emotions, and motivations. I understood and empathized with these characters, even though I couldn't associate with them, and was afraid of them at certain parts.

This is a very good book, but not one that I would read very often - in fact, I'm not sure what happened to my copy. I loaned it out, and it came back, and then... Hmmm.

I do recommend this book, but reader beware. Child molestation, rape, murder, drug overdose... Stuff that will stay with you long after you close the book... Abounds.

This review may be rewritten if I find my copy, but as it is, I think it's safe to say, there are more books out there I care about, but this one affected me, and gave me more perspective than I asked for, or even earned. Dannie Martin knows his material, and doesn't hold back, and is an excellent example of storytelling.… (meer)
