Oftentimes I find it hard to buy books in art museums that cover the museum’s works because they’re either too inclusive or not inclusive enough, or because they focus too much on verbiage and not on representing the art itself in as large a manner as possible.

This one, however, from Dresden’s “Alte Meister”, or “Old Master” museum, strikes all the right chords, or at least, most of them. It has 59 total works, and a pretty big percentage of those had caught my eye when I toured the museum. The biggest omissions from my perspective are Palma di Vechhio’s “Resting Venus”, from 1518-20, and Rembrandt’s “Saskia with a Red Flower”, from 1641. It’s a great sampling nonetheless. The descriptions are not too lengthy and point out some interesting things, and the size of the photos is large, which really helps in “taking me back” to the museum when I open it up.
