When Satou’s best friend Hime tells him she will be moving, he is devastated. So he decides to follow her. Hime is really a princess from another world, and she must return to her kingdom and finalize an arranged marriage. When Satou shows up, Hime decides to marry him instead and gifts Satou with a magical ring. The ring is supposed to bestow its wearer with great powers so the ring bearer may defeat the Abyss King. Satou and Hime set out to find four other rings that Satou will need to complete his transformation into a champion. However, each ring is in the possession of a princess. Will Satou need to marry each princess to gain the rest of the rings so the Abyss King can be defeated once and for all?
Evaluation:
While this is a somewhat standard harem trope in Japanese manga, the main characters and even secondary characters are pretty well fleshed out. The rival prince that Hime was supposed to marry turns out to become a friend of Satou’s and helps with the search for the other rings. It is also stated early in the series that Hime and Satou will remain “friends only” for now. It’s nice to see the main characters’ romantic relationship in a more realistic manner-i.e. they will take their time to let their feelings for each other grow, no instalove. The world building is also nothing new but is well done. The characters are beautifully drawn, although most of the female characters tend to be over endowed and in skimpy attire. There is also some nudity, both male and female. Overall, a fun romp through a standard trope for older teens. Recommended for older teens, grades 10+.… (meer)
