Quantum chemistry door Donald A. McQuarrie
This edition was replaced by the later one. They are very similar, but the 2008 one is preferable. It has additional chapters on the necessary mathematics, and more problems. This was the best textbook on the subject when it was first available.
Fantastic book. For the professional scientist, this is the best primer I know of. For the generalist, do yourself a favor and stop reading what TV gurus, soothsayers and other assorted charlatans say about quantum mechanics, and read this for the real poop.
