I do want to make clear that when I say it is a difficult read I do not mean that as an unequivocal negative. If anything, it is a positive, to portray some of what is in the book in a way that would be easy to read would diminish the power of those moments. That said, you may want to step away periodically (fortunately I am always reading several books at a time, at least one of which is either essays or short stories, so I can shift gears for a time then come back refreshed). Depending on your opinions about certain topics you may get angry, saddened, even triggered, so step back and catch your breath.
Having made that cautionary note, I would recommend this to anyone who likes to read about the darker side of life, who can appreciate a book even if it upsets you in spots. And ultimately leaves you with questions even while it is offering answers. But then, isn't life like that? Answers usually generate more questions.
