Meyers articulates an interesting idea. Modern poetry's standing innovation is the poem which is inspired by the (English) translation of the foreign (French) poem. The good translation favors the words closest in potency over the entrancing rhythm. The translated poem is disjoint, awake and surprising. So are the brightly surreal poems in this book. A love of life, humanity and love comes through from their cleverness, even when the subject matter is morbid. This has the surprise of Rachilde, Lautremont, Tzara but the joy of Whitman.… (meer)
