Fantasy is not my bag, but I don't hate it as much when the fantastic elements are merely a normal part of the world, rather than the point of the story. The fantastic in The Courtiers is exactly that - a part of the world that is as normal to its inhabitants as cars and lightbulbs are to us.

This is a genre-blending fantasy/bildungsroman/gangster adventure, which would appeal to you is you're a fan of both The Wire and Game of Thrones (I'm only a fan of one of those, but this story grabbed me enough that I both finished it and enjoyed it).… (meer)
