I don't read a lot of YA these day, but I honestly would have regretted not giving The Black Veins a chance. Following Blythe Fulton, a 16-year-old out of the norm powerful magician who cannot use magic, who tries to save her family from the claws of an enemy magic state, The Black Veins took me on a magical adventure I dreamed of reading when I was younger.
The book is paced more slowly than I had expected, especially compared to other novels for this audience and with this general set up, but in my opinion, this is for the better. It allowed me to get to know each major character before moving on to the next one instead of character dumping them all within 100 pages.
A true tour de force, with characters I cannot wait to see again in the next installment of the series and a writing style to match.… (meer)
