Steer clear of this compendium of photos of truly dreadful mix tapes containing lots of "ironic" hair metal and boring punk rock chestnuts. My sister bought me this because it was compiled by Thurston Moore, singer/guitarsmith of my favorite band, Sonic Youth. I assumed it'd be edgy mix tapes by cool Moore pals with avant-garde taste. I was mistaken.½

beautifully done. great photos, tons of oral history detail on the area and the relationships. makes sense of a very confusing period, when a lot of creativity was in the air, and a lot of high-mantenance personalities were churning things up. doesn't take sides, and lets the resulting work speak for itself.½
