- Moritz was a German orientalist and palaeographer. He was the first director of the Egyptian National Library (dâr al-kutub al-miSrîya), formerly known as Bibliothèque Khédiviale. He directed it from 1898 to 1911. He published its first catalog of Arabic manuscripts in 1905. He formed an important collection of Arabic manuscripts which was eventually divided and sold to the University of Pennsylvania in 1910 and the University of Chicago's Oriental Institute in 1929.
