History of the US Army door James M. Morris
A good general history of the US Army up to when it was written in the mid 1980's. I particularly enjoyed the sections on the Army Air Forces in WWII.
Eclectic mix of 28 essays on various aspects of American military history from the founding of the Republic to the early twenty-first century. I have used a couple essays as readings in a course I taught on US military history. Some of the essays are almost purely descriptive, some are more analytical. This collection is probably best used piecemeal; reading it cover-to-cover would provide only spotty coverage, and I doubt I'd ever use it whole cloth as a primary reader for a course. But it's still a reasonably useful source for the occasional article.… (meer)
