The cover i have to say, threw me. In all honesty i think that a story this powerful deserved a cover with more oomph perhaps? Petty i know but hell, it's MY impression.
In essence we all build fences around ourselves for various reasons. This is a book about the breaking down and the adding to, of fences of self-protection. It's an awesome book about true friendship and the love of a mother and daugther.
Ruth has over-protected her 'slow' daughter Denise for over 50 years. And now she is dying. Help is on the way in the form of her oldest and cherished friend Georgia. The three have to plan and it ain't easy!
Georgia has to overcome her fear of losing love to illness, Denise needs to learn to overcome her fear of independence and Ruth has to face the past by writing of it for her daughter.
There is laughter , tears, and realism here and you'll need a cuppa tea, a tissue and a couple of hours to yourself.

Sometimes you come across an inspirational novel that just takes your breath away, for me, that novel is Comfort of Fences.

Comfort of Fences is a poignant story that follows the intertwining relationship bond between a dying mother, a special needs adult daughter, and a best friend. Author Stacy Overman Morrison weaves an emotional tale that draws the reader into the lives of Ruth, Denise and Georgia. Ruth is dying from cancer and is trying to make arrangements to provide for her daughter Denise, she is aided by the strong anchor and bond of a longtime friendship with her best friend Georgia. As Ruth prepares for her death, she writes their life story for Denise, a loving journey of their fifty-two year mother-daughter relationship.

Written in alternating perspectives, the reader is transported from the past to the present as Ruth and Denise's story unfolds. This is a heartwarming story about three strong women and their intertwining relationship bond that is born out of love, loyalty, friendship, secrets, choices, mistakes, consequences, and acceptance. This story is beautifully written with so much thoughtful emotion and compassion, the author easily draws the reader into the complex dynamic of the mother-daughter relationship and the loyal best friends relationship. Through laughter and tears, the reader can't help but embrace these three remarkable and unforgettable women, they will simply hold you captive until the conclusion.

Comfort of Fences is an amazing women's fiction novel that will tug at your heartstrings, speak to your soul, and leave you with a warm fuzzy feeling long after the last word has been read.

A dying mother, a special needs child, good friends.

Good friends are what you need when you know your last days are approaching and there is no family available.

COMFORT OF FENCES walks you through the lives of Ruth and Denise, mother and daughter, and Ruth’s best friend, Georgia. You will see the bond between them as Ruth is dying and trying to provide for Denise when she is gone.

COMFORT OF FENCES takes you back to Ruth's days before Denise was born through a story Ruth writes as she waits for the cancer to take her. Ruth wants Denise to know what her life was like as a young mother and why she made the decisions she did for Denise.

Your heart will break for Ruth, but realize what a strong person she is. You will also admire her. You will love Georgia for her steadfast loyalty to her childhood friend. You will love Denise for all she had to endure in her life and how she held up.

COMFORT OF FENCES took a few pages to get moving. The beginning was sort of repetitive, but as Ruth began telling the story of her life, the book became a bit more interesting..

COMFORT OF FENCES is a book about relationships both good and bad, the choices we make because we have to, and secrets that we keep. 4/5

This book was given to me free of charge by the author in return for an honest review.
