Ristéard Mulcahy

This is a worthwhile and well-written memoir. It compliments nicely with the Valiulis biography of Richard Mulcahy. Both should be read in tandem in my view. It is interesting to see Mulcahy's trenchant, in some parts, criticism of Béaslaí's work on Collins and his trenchant criticism of de Valera, Seán T. O'Kelly (his brother-in-law by marriage), and other Fianna Fáil figures. The referencing of the book could have been better in my view and there are some statements which I believe would require supporting references to assure readers of their accuracy. I would have also liked an equal focus on the period of Mulcahy the politician and minister rather than the much larger focus on Mulcahy the military man.… (meer)
