Sheila Iverson, a junior in high school, arrives in Salmon City to stay for a year with her aunt, uncle, and cousin. Dark, energetic Mrs. Henshaw who works at the fish-cannery, lives near the sea in a rustic house with her son Rick. She strikes everyone-- except Sheila-- as a peculiar type. The ""bizarre"" woman has returned to her childhood home to ""dust off"" her deceased father's reputation. The exciting life of the fish ""farmers"" is etched sharply amidst the eerie, suspenseful atmosphere.
