- Elaine Adams Novak taught and served in the administration at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia for 37 years, beginning in 1956. She also staged hundreds of plays, both through the Marshall Theater Department and the Huntington Outdoor Theatre, and published multiple textbooks on acting and staging plays. She received the university's Distinguished Service Award in 1993. Elaine Novak was a Marshall alumna herself. She earned her master's degree from Columbia University in New York and her doctorate at Ohio State University.
During World War II, she served in the U.S. Navy in communications intelligence, before beginning her career in education and theater arts.
