nonfiction memoir - refugee (from Warri and Abuja, Nigeria to NYC) survivor of homophobic persecution tells about experiences escaping Nigeria, being held in detention for months while waiting for asylum case to be heard, and finally being released and eventually finding work continuing his activism for humane policy towards LGBTQA+ asylum-seekers.

quite an incredible story, and very informative about the (privately-owned, publicly traded detention center companies that profit from keeping more people detained unnecessarily). It sometimes gets a little slow, but overall relatively succinct and well worth the read for its much-needed additional perspective.… (meer)
