1343. Frederick Barbarossa, by Marcel Pacaut (26 June 1975) This is a short book and the author says "it does not pretend to be a minute and painstaking analysis of the archives, as were, for instance, my earlier studies of Alexander III and Louis VII. " I found it not thorough enough, and wished I could read his biographies of Pope Alexander III and King Louis VII--but I don't think they have been translated into English. I said to myself: "Wouldn't it be nice to be able to read French and German?" I still think so, 30 years later.
