When Doreen Green, better known as Squirrel Girl, faces down with a villain who's attacking New York, her efforts to stop him land her and her friends on the outer edges of the universe. While they soon meet a telepathic space whale who's happy to try and help them get back to Earth, there are larger conflicts looming that Squirrel Girl can't keep herself from getting involved in.

Long-time visitors to my threads will know how much I loved the Squirrel Girl comic series by Ryan North, so you can imagine my delight when my husband gifted me this novel, whose existence was a surprise to me. Tristan Palmgren does a great job of retaining the quirky narrative voice of the comics, complete with the fun footnotes, in this case from both Squirrel Girl as well as her editor, The Hulk. There's plenty of humour, action, and Squirrel Girl remains true to her comic roots, overcoming most odds with the power of friends and friendship. My only quibble is that the book could have used a more thorough copy editor as there were a few sentences I stumbled over that needed easy fixes. That said, if you loved the comics like me, I highly recommend this novel.… (meer)

*A Thank you to Netgalley for allowing me to read this. This is my honest review*

To be honest, at first I was not sure about this book, but as the story unfolded I found myself sucked in and wanting to know what the hell was happening. I don't think most people know who Domino is, and I was a little surprised to see that she got her own book, but I am glad she did. The book was a little hard to start as it felt like Domino mostly rambled on to me , but eventually I got used to Palmgren's Domino voice and story rhythm.

This book is like three stories in one. The stories are interconnected and adds alot to Domino as a character. While the story does jump around a lot there was never a moment for me, where I felt confused but rather it kep me reading like breadcrumbs leading me to the ending. I do wish we got to see more od Fomino interacting with her team. Despite this being a standalone, it reads like a second book in a series and I have a feeling it probably ties in to the Black Widow book which I have not read.

Overall, a great book about a character that needs more love.

It's a novel about Domino, from her point of view and the time is spilt between three timelines, her present, her childhood and when she met her mother. I'm sure I would have enjoyed it more if I was more familiar with the character. The story from different times was interesting if a bit distracting sometimes and did flesh out some of the reactions and reasons for particular reactions.
Overall interesting and made me want to read more in this series.
