An enemies to lovers workplace romance.

The characters are both intelligent adults with intense high demand jobs in the same firm. The use of a ‘one position, two candidates’ scheme is an easy workplace set up and is used well in this case. Both characters seem more than capable in the job so there isn’t any undue advantage in that area. The obvious plot point with this is that one is female, the other male so the reader already knows what will happen, it’s a question of how.

The holiday twist on the scheme/plot was an interesting turn I was hoping to get more from - some readers may disagree and find there was a good light amount to keep the story moving. It added dimension to the characters of Kathryn and Ethan to be certain but I kept wondering at the deeper issues; could be my intense enjoyment of picking people’s actions/reactions apart in real life getting in the way of my fiction.

The romance portion was warm enough in this case. The office sex scene was a hard eyeroll simply because it’s a ‘been done’ trope that didn’t add anything to the story nor made the concept any sexier. It worked in this story because of the good setup but if taken out on it’s own, it would not make the list of steamy sex scenes or naughtiest places.

Charming a person into liking your favorite holiday, while simultaneously vying for a promotion and trying to seduce them is a tall order. I’m not surprised at the ending in the slightest. I was banking on it; that doesn’t make it any less enjoyable or good.

This is an easy light read for someone who may be just dipping toes into the genre and isn’t looking for NSFW material. It’s contemporary, easy to read, and moves along quickly so the reader won’t feel bogged down by too much plot or too many characters.
