A book about the previously believed near extinct wild elephant population in Knysna. From a scientific point of view the book tended towards the ethereal on occasion, but what a lot of scientist often choose to overlook is that what non-scientist see as magical or supernatural is often just something that science has not fully understood. This book addresses such magic in the form of a small population of african elephants - the only surviving unfenced population - that have been dwelling unnoticed by humans in the Knysna forest for the last decade or so. The very nature of this seemingly impossible overlook (you would imagine an elephant would have a hard time at hiding) makes the reader question how far we have moved from nature and how little of it we really understand in modern day,. As the superior species we are also faced with the fact that this 'lesser' species seem to know more about us than we do them.… (meer)
