Linus C. Pauling, Dr.

Dr. Pauling--born in 1901 and died in 1994--was the winner of two Nobel prizes, one for chemistry in 1954 and the Noble peace prize in 1962. In 1946 Pauling joined the Emergency Committee of Atomic Scientists, which was chaired by Albert Einstein. The purpose of the committee was to warn the public of the dangers involved with developing nuclear weapons. Pauling remained an activist all of his life, protesting the Vietnam War and came under heavy censure for it from the U. S. government. The speech delivered to the Unitarian Universalist Association was just one of many meant to move others, to action.… (meer)
