5435, Diaries 1949-1959, by Drew Pearson Edited by Tyler Abell (read 8 Jan 2017) This book was published in 1974, And edited by Drew Pearson's son-in-law--Pearson himself having died Sept 1, 1969. It is of much historical interest to one who lived through the years covered. Pearson was an extremely controversial and crusading columnist and if the book is accurate lobbied for causes he was interested in, writing speeches for Senators and rounding up votes on Capitol Hill. I found the recital of Pearson's activities of much historical interest and wish I had read the book 50 years ago. I don't know that there is as imilar newsman or columnist operating today, but clearly Pearson served a function which sometimes at least served the country well.… (meer)
