Sarah and David are constantly bickering and on the edge of divorce... until they show up for their couple's counseling session one day and their therapist tries to eat them. But will surviving the zombie apocalypse together save their marriage?

OK, with a premise like that, I think you have two possible ways to end up with something actually good. One is to use the horror and absurdity of the zombie apocalypse as a backdrop for an actually insightful exploration of the nature of a troubled marriage. Based on the title, the cover, and the cheap mass-market nature of the publication, I was not expecting this approach. The other option is to write a fun, Shaun of the Dead-style romp with the troubled marriage thing there to add humor, character moments, and maybe even a touch of heart. This is definitely the approach this one is going for. Does it succeed? Eh, not really.

I mean, I guess there's a moment or two when I came close to smiling at some comment one or the other of the central couple made, but that's about all I can say for it. Really, it's just a bog-standard zombie story. Well, all right, that's just a little unfair, as it does use a slightly different-than-usual idea about how people turn into zombies, where the bloodlust actually precedes the zombification. That is something that could be used to add horror, tension, and emotional impact, but unfortunately the story doesn't really do anything all that interesting with it. So, well, I may be less tired of zombies than most people, but this one still kind of left me yawning. I definitely won't be going on with the rest of the series.½

I enjoyed this one! I am so glad that I finally tackled this series. It was a lighter listen but had enough zombie action to keep my interest at all times. I really appreciated the humor that was worked into the story. I would recommend reading the series in order if at all possible since details from the first two books are frequently referred to in this installment.

In this installment, David and Sarah are trying to make it to the wall that has divided the United States in half. They have some pretty close calls with other survivors and pick up a couple of individuals to help them on their mission along the way. David is having a few side effects from his close call in the previous book that made things extremely interesting.

I listened to the audiobook and thought that Cassandra Campbell did a great job with the story. I really think that she has been the perfect narrator for this series. She really brought the characters to life and helped to make the story even more exciting. I would definitely pick up more books in the series if given the chance.

This was fun! I love zombie books and enjoyed the first book in this series so I decided to jump right into the second book. This book picks up shortly after the events of the first book so I would encourage others to read this series in order if at all possible. In this installment, David and Sarah have decided to go into business together, working to exterminate zombies for others.

There really weren’t any big surprises in the story but I had fun watching Sarah and David navigate a world full of zombies. Not to mention the evil scientist and the kid they end up partnered with. I thought that the humor in the story was well done and loved seeing just how much David and Sarah care about each other. There were a few surprises before that really had me worrying if Sarah and David were going to make it.

I listened to the audiobook and thought that Cassandra Campbell did a fantastic job with this story. I love the voices she uses for the characters and thought that she made the story feel even more exciting. She does a great job of delivering the humor of the story as well. I hope to start reading the next book in the series very soon.

This was a lot of fun! It has been a while since I picked up a zombie book so I decided that it was time to finally give this book a try. Zombies plus a nice dose of humor? Yes, please! I liked Sarah and David and appreciated the fact that instead of making goo-goo eyes at each other they were headed for divorce before zombies started showing up. They actually learn about the zombies when their marriage counselor tries to eat them.

This was a rather light read with enough zombie action to keep things interesting. David and Sarah were great characters and I enjoyed seeing their attitudes towards each other shift as they dealt with the crisis they found themselves in. Nothing like a few zombies to save a marriage. While I didn’t find myself laughing out loud, I really enjoyed the humor worked into the story.

I thought that Cassandra Campbell did a wonderful job with the narration. I thought that she did a great job with the various character voices and I thought that she brought just the right amount of emotion to her reading. I hope to pick up the next book in the series very soon.

No, Jesse Petersen, sexual harasment and catcalling isn't something that makes women feel nice, nor is it something we'll miss in a post zombie-apocalypse world.

Zippy and just enough humor and humanity to get me to the end. The one line description pretty much says it all: Couples counseling wasn't working but the zombie apocalypse got their marriage back on its feet. I won't be reading the others in the series.

Definitely not great for me. Little too much flip observation & not enough apocalypse for my taste.

Another audiobook with an excellently-suited narrator. I went into this book with no clear expectations, but ended up really enjoying it. It was funny and touching and suitably gross for a zombie novel, without going over the line for me. The plot was fast-paced and there was lots of tension on several levels. My biggest complaint was that it's not a long novel, and it ended too soon. Apparently I'm in luck, though--there are more in the series!

Sarah and David are still fighting the zombies, and are continuing their journey towards the wall and safety, if the wall really exists, dividing human people from the roving zombie hordes. Author Jesse Peterson manages to keep the story fresh, in spite of the continuing battles with the zombies. But don't expect the story to end with this installment, or for things go well with our hero couple. It IS the zombie apocalypse, after all, and Sarah and Dave have more zombies to conquer before they can rest on their laurels.

If you liked the first book in this series, then you’ll love this one. There’s nothing like a zombie apocalypse to bring a warring couple together in matrimonial bliss. David and Sarah had some rough spots in this story, both with the zombies and with each other. But all’s well that ends well, except it never really ends, because there are always many more zombies, right around the corner. In spite of what should be a serious subject of kill or be killed, there is a generous sprinkling of humor as our favorite zombie-killing couple go on their way to save humanity. If you’re looking for a fun treatment of a zombie apocalypse, then this series is one you don’t want to miss.

There is nothing quite like a zombie apocalypse to save a marriage in trouble. At least, that’s what Sarah and David discovered, after seeing their marriage counselor attacking another couple who definitely weren’t going to save their marriage. Or themselves. As Sarah and David unite against the zombies, they realize just how much they still care for each other. Now, if they can just protect themselves from roaming zombies, find a way to survive, locate other humans, and develops a plan that will facilitate a somewhat normal life, they might find out that they still love each other. Who knows? If the zombies don’t kill them, the zombies might just have saved their lives! Filled with equal parts of horror, suspense, and humor, this is pure entertainment from beginning to end. And a word to the wise: keep in touch with Sarah and David - you’ll want them close by. Just in case.

Once the group is defined, the misfit monster interactions make this a worthwhile read. The complex relationship between Jekyll and Hyde is an engaging narrative by itself. So is the shudder that passes through the group when Halloween is mentioned — as if someone has indelicately mentioned a bodily function that polite company wouldn’t discuss. There is a lot to enjoy as classic monsters navigate my favorite city. The novel ends with a very clear setup for a sequel (I just Googled, and The Monsters in Your Neighborhood is out next month) so they can have more monster adventures in New York!

Sure, Club Monstrosity might use a scarred corpse-construct, an ancient vampire who won’t freaking dorm down in public, and Van Helsing’s crazed daughter-in-law to tell the story. But it’s really a novel about the moments of alienation in a crowd.

(Full review at Club Monstrosity: Classic Monsters In Manhattan)

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley to review, but opinions are my own. Free books have never stopped me from snarking about a bad book!

I love this series! I wasn't a big zombie fan until I watched The Walking Dead, but since then, I've been more willing to read/watch zombie stuff. This series is amazing! This book covered more of the self-serving/evil nature of humans during a disaster event, so I didn't like it as well as the first. I'm finding that I'm a big fan of survival fiction books now.

This book was good. I like the first one better, mostly because it was more straight-forward. This one had a mad-scientist with a zombie-creating agenda. Ugh! It lost one star because the mad-scientist drove me crazy, and there was more suspenseful drama than I can enjoy.

The idea that the government was creating super-soldiers creeps me out. The idea that those super-soldiers became zombies makes it worse. I guess it lost a star because I'd still like some mystery behind the zombie cause until a later book. I know there are three (and there might be four in this series).

So, what I'm saying is...this book is amazing! This series is amazing! This author is amazing! But I had to take 1 star away because of my personal preferences, etc.

What happens when you’re transporting a potential zombie cure to civilization and then discover the cure might be something slightly different than you expected? And, as you try to figure that out, you’ve got to keep it secret from an inquisitive former entertainment reporter you’ve rescued along the way? Eat Slay Love gives you a pretty good idea.

Dave and Sarah have the cure and are on the road to the rumored Midwest Wall, hoping to deliver the cure to government scientists. Along the way, they run into Nicole Nessing, a reporter from a TMZ type TV show. Of course, it hasn’t been broadcasting during the apocalypse but Nicole is still filming. She thinks that when this is all over (will it ever be over?), she’ll get rich off of all the footage she’s shot. This makes her a pretty annoying character.

As they journey towards the Wall, they encounter numerous obstacles that I won’t go into detail about for fear of spoiling it for you. Along the way, Sarah notices that Dave is exhibiting some strange behavior that she doesn’t quite know what to make of. Dave himself is slow to notice.

In Eat Slay Love, Dave and Sarah come closer to finding out how and why the zombie apocalypse started but they don’t find everything out. Hopefully, that will come in the next book. Apparently, the fourth installment is the last. I read on the author’s blog that she didn’t continue on with the series after the fourth because sales of the third weren’t that great. And now I’m having trouble finding a copy of the fourth book, The Zombie Whisperer. It’s not on Amazon anymore. I tweeted the author but I haven’t heard back yet. I hope I can find a copy and that it doesn’t end with a major cliff hanger that’s never going to get resolved!½

This review may contain spoilers for the first book in the series, Married With Zombies. Surviving the zombie apocalypse by fighting zombies together has made David and Sarah’s marriage stronger than ever. They are so good at kicking zombie butt that they have started a business called ZombieBusters – a zombie extermination service. Things are going well until they land a customer that wants them to capture zombies and bring them to him still alive. Or still undead? Anyway, he doesn’t want them killed. What in the world does he want with live zombies? That’s what Dave and Sarah want to find out.

Flip This Zombie had a lot of surprise twists and was just as campy and fun as Married with Zombies. I’m going to continue reading this series.½

David and Sarah are a couple on the verge of divorce when the zombie apocalypse starts. Now their survival depends on working together.

This is a very light-hearted story as far as zombie books go. Even though people die, it’s never really sad. Or scary. And I don’t think the author wanted it to be sad or scary. It’s fun and suspenseful with bad humor that will make you groan more than laugh. Both the banter between David and Sarah and Sarah’s snappy inner dialogue were mostly funny but could get a bit grating at times.
Despite the fact that this review is coming off critical, I did in fact enjoy this book. It’s the definition of brain candy. The Lifetime movie equivalent of a zombie book – turn off your brain, read and have fun.½

Humor and Zombies – what a great combination. A married couple on the verge of divorce end up uniting to fight off hordes of the undead. Lots of laughs and plenty of gore.

Sometimes you just need a mindless read to waste your time. This certainly fit the bill. I finished this in just over an hour and was still able to pick out a whole bunch of misplaced commas and other grammatical irritations.

A couple on the verge of divorce end up fighting zombies. Eh. The author tries too hard to include "therapy speak" when the couple interacts. It didn't work for me and bordered on outright annoying. I was getting fed up with Sarah: Every time she said her husband was right, she had to follow it up with a comment about how often she was saying it. We get it, they were in therapy. Whatever.

This is book one in a series. Unless I have nothing else to do and nothing else to read, I can't imagine I'll be picking up book two. But we'll see...
