Read:
~ "Sea-Crowned" / Coroa do mar - 4* -
Wow. That gets dark and looking at the author's bio you can't help but think, it's not any darker than what some people have had to endure in the non-fiction world.
A merfolk child, who along with her brother, were "rescued" after their merfolk family was murdered by maybe the Navy or some group that has people of rank. The brother could almost pass for human so he was allowed to roam but the female, whose heritage was obvious, was forever locked in a house. The female sibling is the narrator of the story and it starts with her as a young girl but continues into young adulthood.
The author put together an interesting story. So much so that I will be looking for other work and keeping an eye on them.
For those that need trigger warnings:
this one is part of ending so extra spoilery!!!
(I listened on Podcastle before this book was published)
~ "A Letter, Unfolding" / A carta desdobra -
A bit above my reading skill but I hope to read everything they have written.
hmmm, memory triggers: A man who seems to be in prison inside an envelope, sees his future wife in the next cell/envelope. She doesn't know him yet so there is some time distortion. They are both suffering somehow.
(I read on 580split.org before this book was published)
~ "Memory-eater" / O comedor de memórias - gave it start but ugh, I'm lost. Will re-try sometime.
Opens with: "Every day he digs the same grave, and every day he leaves it untouched, a grave as deep as himself. And he digs. He digs. He digs. He will keep digging until his work is done, and it might take years—too many years.
