Sansa Rayne

Alllllriiiiiiight. I quite adored this book. It didn't read quite like I had expected, granted I've read some quite "this is messed up WTF are you reading what is wrong with you" type books, so I found this on the lighter spectrum of the dark classification. But heck if I didn't love every second of the story, the baddassery of Marla and the sensitivity of Gabriel was just so intriguing to me, the way all the characters developed throughout the book, even the secondary ones, such a joy to my reader brain. I'd mention the end but then I'd think it'd get spoilery in a way so I won't say anything at all, not even one single word.… (meer)

Sansa Rayne has brought us back into her dark and gritty world.

Carson is a woman who knows that she likes submission and pain. When her best friend, Summer, gets into trouble, she calls Carson, hoping that she can help. When Summer gets kidnapped right in front of Carson's eyes, she has to use all her private detective skills to try and find Summer and bring her home.

Aldous is a Dom. He owns a sex club called The Pit. He plays up the Satanic thing, including having his club covered in Satanic symbols. In fact, his own personal playroom has animal skulls with glowy red eyes. He isn't really a Satanist, but the image works well.

Summer is only the latest woman to go missing, and the last place she was seen was The Pit. That means that Carson is going to go in there to see what she can find.

This is a good story with a lot of curves and swerves. The POV flips back and forth between Carson, Aldous, Summer, and a couple of other characters, which gives us a really good idea of what is going on in all aspects of the story. I really like that, because the story can be complex and seeing things from different points of view helped see why characters were acting a particular way.

I thought that the writing was sound and the story was good. This story can be read as a standalone, but it does come after Sansa Rayne's Erased.

Having read Erased and Exalted, I was really happy to read Enslaved. I love this particular world that Sansa Rayne has created. And it doesn't matter if you haven't read the other two. They are all in the same world, and the characters from the first two books show up in this one, but they are really tertiary characters, so if you don't know who they are, you aren't going to get lost.

This is intense, it is dark, terrible things happen, and it's sexy af, especially if you are just a little twisted.

Quinn is under arrest and accused of assault because she put a Senator's son in a coma. Of course, he was trying to rape her and her friend at the time, and all she did was push him, she didn't mean to push him toward the window, but she wouldn't've helped him not fall out the window. Frankly, neither would I.

But the Senator has a very, very private prison that is used to help reform women and get them out of the prison system at large, so he forges Quinn's name on the papers, and off she goes to Walker. Only, Walker isn't nice at all, and reform comes at the end of the whip.

Reed was Lance's friend. That makes Quinn his special job. He is supposed to break her and make her ready for the Senator to own her after the election. The problem is, Quinn is stubborn, strong, determined, and gets off on being whipped. Even worse, when Quinn tells Reed her story, he starts to believe her, which makes everything hard.

Reed seems too stupid to live sometimes. I just wanted to smack him upside his head. He would get that person A was bent and Person C was bent, but Person B, who was the only one connecting A and C was a blind spot and he would think that there was nothing bent about them. I mean, he needed a cluex4 upside the back of the head, and it might have made things easier. Maybe Quinn should've got to use his paddle on his butt.

Quinn is super fierce and she will fight and did fight. She did what she thought was necessary, even though it wasn't always the right thing to do. I really liked her a lot.

I would love to see Reed and Quinn work with the other couples from the other books. I think that would be great.… (meer)
