Fruit Woman by Kate Rigby

Set in the l980's Helen and her extended family, spend a night at their favorite holiday destination, Myrtle Cottages. Helen's old friends Bella, Bella's brother, Dominic, and Helen's cousin, Les join them. Then Helen's Mother invites someone from church Christine Wigg, a friend of the family.

Helen worries over some of the guests, she hasn't seen Bella for years, she’s attracted to Dominic, she thinks it a bad idea for her mother to have invited Les. Her anxieties bring on childhood and adolescent memories.

A fast paced story of family and friendship. Old issues are recalled, friendships renewed and past sins are faced. The dialog is rich with plenty of details pulling you into the story. I enjoyed Fruit Woman and feel those who like women's fiction will as well. a great read.

She Looks Pale by Kate Rigby

Hannah nearly dies of Meningitis at the age of six. This causes her parents to become extremely over-protective. Soon they take her out of school, and isolate her from the world.

A well written story of one young girls "personal hell". Hannah is very likable, I could not help but falling in love with her and wanting her to lead a normal life. Her Mother, Father and Aunt get way out of control with over protecting her. Yong Hannah wants nothing more than a normal life, to go to school, have friends and be happy.

A very original story, that grabs you by the heart and won't let go. I strongly recommend She Looks Pale to all. The cover is captivating, it captures Hannah's innocence and yearnings for normalcy.

Intense and incredible read.

On the edge of life and death, yes that's what this is about and it's written in short snippets, that at first, I had to get used to and "catch" up, but once I realized the style fit the story perfectly, I followed without any issue. Death becomes an obsession, as it effects the lives of the characters, some more than others. It's an intense read, with some great dark humor. Highly recommended.

Incredibly twisted story!

And I mean twisted in a good way. Every single detail is important to the story and it draws the reader in. A great psychological thriller, bringing the reader into the life of an experiment. Human experiment ... with great savagery, by trying to "tame" the wild child. The reader gets lost in the story, with twists at every page turning, it's an intense story. The deeper you get involved in the story the more you realize that the Professor is only focused on his pride for his work, not the wellbeing of his subjects. Yes, there is more than, but that's all I can say. If you love a good psychological thriller, this book should be first on your list. Highly recommended!… (meer)
