Here is a very uniquely crafted devotional to help followers of Jesus defeat the giants in their lives while also bearing a fruitful life. At first, the title threw me as I thought what a crazy title and what’s inside to draw me closer to God with depth or is this just another nonsense type of devotional. What do I mean by nonsense? We have all read, perused or bought devotionals with the hope that our walk will be deepened, challenged and growing. Unfortunately, sometimes we come away empty-handed as it seems the book lacked depth, meaning and ended up being given away or in file 13.
Well, here is one that to me really took me by surprise; it’s very genuine in content and caused me to dig deep into the Word. I also found plenty of Scriptures to look up, journal from and meditate on. The chapters each have five days of study under whatever topic is highlighted. Then, after a couple of pages of reading, readers are directed to a section titled, “Word Study Exercise” that has readers looking up several passages in the Bible. Afterwards there is brief section titled, “Biblical Role Model Ministudy”, followed by “Heritage Faith Walkers”. The day’s study ends with “Small Steps Toward Slaying Giants”. Then, just like David who picked five smooth stones to slay his giant, the author gives one for us to put in our sling, which is basically a sentence for us to be used in our walk.
In a day and age where there are too many Biblical studies, devotionals or books that seem to me to be dumbed down, this one raises the bar a lot! I appreciate the words of wisdom the author shares to encourage us to throw at whatever is holding us back from growing up in Christ. There are moments where you might stop just because the truth of what is shared is like a “wow” moment.
The devotional is for those who want more of The Word, both the written and the Person! I don’t think it’s a devotional for those who won’t put forth the work, effort or open heart to hear Him speak. I hope that people will take time and really enjoy the spiritual food placed before them in this book. You may not feel as though you have giants in your life right now and that’s great, but perhaps you know someone who needs or wants to grow deeper in Him! If you know someone, grab a copy and climb the beanstalk together!
