In writing a tech-how-to book, timing is everything. M. L. Ronn’s discussion of speech-to-text technology in How to Dictate a Book (2021) missed its moment. Ronn recommends using Nuance Dragon software with a low-end podcast microphone. Dragon is now in its 16th edition. Had the book been published in 2016 with whatever edition was available, such software would have been state-of-the-art. But cheaper options for dictation are available, with more advances to come in the next year or two. The case for an expensive dictation software suite is ever more difficult to make—three stars.

One of many writing books I read over three months. A bit on the brief side, but interesting.

This is an inspirational listen, with some good ideas for writers who want to up their game. The narration by John Freyer of this quick listen enhanced the experience of worthwhile contents.
