The second reason I liked this book is because of the counting down aspect in the story. The main character is asking for things for her birthday party throughout the story. She starts out by asking, “I’d like ten prancing ponies,” next she asks, “How about nine juggling jugglers?” and this count down continues throughout the book. At the end she finally gets to one, which is for a normal birthday party. This counting down created suspense in the book. It also seemed fitting to be counting down to a party because it builds up excitement for the party as well.
The big idea of this story is not revealed until the very end of the story. The main character is asking for a lot of crazy things for her birthday party, all of which are too expensive. When she gets to the end, she asks for a party with close family and friends to celebrate with. The big idea of the story is that celebrating special moments does not have to involve huge, expensive things. Sometimes the best moments can be shared with friends and family.… (meer)
