classic book on information retrieval. read it!
First, the layout of this book is simply beautiful - a masterpiece of manual typography. Second, it is a well written if dated introduction to the basics of information retrieval. Third, it goes to show that much of what is being "invented" these days is merely a footnote in Salton's legacy.
