Why is nobody reviewing this book??? I'll grant you, it's book 3 but it covers the past as part of its present so there's only the curiosity factor to make you want to reread the others. Recap: America is the underdog in an invasive war by Russians and China and the story centers on an effective faction in Alaska that is sheltering over a thousand people who are under imminent threat by the entrenched Chinese garrison and their leader whose companion is actually the wife of the rebel leader (but the American is positive that he had viewed her faceless body in her car at the beginning of the war) and nothing has been heard from the American's sons in the three years past. This is a very military book (I had to consult with others just because I am more familiar with flintlocks than AK-12 or belt-fed grenade launchers). There is a plot and it is well executed as well as intense and riveting. There are some very funny parts, too. No spoilers. My opinion is that any military inclined person would really get off on this one, not just the testosterone crowd!
I prefer the audio because it is narrated by the author-can't go wrong there. Besides, that makes it more portable.… (meer)

The thing about reading this author's books out of publication order is that I discovered more interesting things about each of the recurring characters. That's a good thing. Like all of Basil Sands' books, this one is an action thriller, fast paced and full of law enforcement and inactive Marines. Kharzai is the known CIA amongst the recurring characters and this book lets us know more about the
anger that is always present beneath his facade. I know that I want to reread them in publication order after I pry them loose from a certain inactive Marine who liberated them from me.
The audios are narrated by the author and while that is almost always a good thing, in this case it is even better because he is a professional narrator!… (meer)

A horrible situation only gets worse. After surviving unspeakable torture while on active duty Mike finished his seminary training and has been pastor of a suburban parish, married and had a small son when the unthinkable happened. But it wasn't a simple drive by, it was an assassination attempt aimed at him by an enemy from the past. Enter some old buddies from back in the day now active FBI with the backstory interwoven with tracking down and neutralizing the terrorist before he can do great harm to the citizens of Columbus. Unfortunately the clarity of the graphic descriptions met my visual imagination enhanced by my time working emergency. But that certainly didn't deter me from being glued to the story for the entire book!
The author narrates the audiobook and that always is a four star recommendation.… (meer)
