There are 17 essays in this colourful volume. Some cover topics I have read about in other sources. An example is the Wyatt essay on the Damn Busters. I have read Paul Brickhill's definitive version but here are other eye witness accounts I do not remember reading before. The story of Butch O'Hara, the analysis of the Japanese Zero's strengths and weaknesses, the shooting down of Admiral Yamamoto and the final entry that tells the story of the flight of the Japanese negotiators of the armistice from their meetings in Manila to and from Japan. One plane load crashed on the return flight and if the men aboard had not survived, it may have triggered a resumption of hostilities. An added bonus is the magnificent paintings of famous WW II aviation moments that are included. There are photographs as well. This is a real gem.… (meer)
